Dunbrody Visitor Centre

Housed in twin 18th-century grain mills, this intelligent, absorbing center tells the story of the Irish diaspora and the mass emigration that Ireland suffered over the course of centuries. It is an interesting and sometimes heartbreaking tale that includes a turn-of-the-last-century New York street scene and an Irish-American hall of fame. The center is owned by the JFK Trust. As this book was being written, a €2.5-million renovation was underway to expand the center and turn it into a national center on emigration. Because of this, the prices and open hours listed below could change by the time of your visit. Call to check before heading out. Moored in the quay adjacent to the building is the SS Dunbrody Emigrant Ship, a beautifully constructed replica of a ship that was used to carry emigrants to America during the Great Famine.
